The Demuwawatha International Gem & Jewellery Trade Center (DIGJTC) is Sri Lanka’s leading trade premises for gems & jewellery. It encompasses over 22,000 square meters of retail and office space, constructed upon 22 purchase of land in Demuwawatha Street, the City of Gems Ratnapura District.

Demuwawatha is regarded as one of the most important trading hub since 2500 years ago for the supply of Cut & polished blue sapphires & Stars supply of the international market, playing host to 100 of leading retailers & wholesellers.

Welcome to the Export Services Unit of NGJA

To cover the value of the merchandise to be exported, the prospective exporter can obtain a Gem Trade License and approach the Gem Tower National gem & Jewellery Authority, Export Services Division for export activities. (This license can be obtained for quantities that vary depending on the maximum stock that can be kept at any time)

Foreign buyers, after purchasing gems or jewelry, are facilitated to grant permission for import through the gem trade license holders from whom they purchased them and/or under joint ventures.

You are also provided with the facility to obtain very clear information from the officers of the Export Services Division regarding the requirements to be met by other institutions related to gem and jewelry exports.

There, an efficient/effective and attractive staff is created for the exporters in such a way that all services related to export can be carried out under one roof.

Gem Testing and Certification Laboratory

The Gem Laboratory of the Authority is the only government institution in Sri Lanka that provides laboratory facilities for gem testing and issuing certificates.

The sole objective of establishing the Gem Tower is to provide facilities of a government institution to the people of Ratnapura area to inspect and certify the condition of the gemstones purchased by their traders and customers, in order to conduct formal legal proceedings in the gem and jewellery trade. Efforts are currently being made to upgrade the International Gem Laboratory to the status of a government institution in the future.
